First Full Lisbon Day, special note.
On our way to breakfast I figured we had to duck into this particular little storefront to see what they sold. I thought I saw a dining area in the back.
I was wrong.
I had however discovered one of the touchstones of my particular world.
This is one of three public outlets of the association of Portuguese fishermen's companies. They have tins of all the different fish processed by Portuguese fishermen: swordfish, mackerel, cod, sardines, and more.
Did you catch that?
Sardines.
They have I don't know how many different Portuguese brands of tinned sardines than I ever saw when I was an active collector of sardine labels from all over the world. I even had a sardine tin from Normandy that was opened on the Antietam battlefield during the Civil War.
My heart almost stopped.
I couldn't handle a simple photo. I had do hold myself to a minute video. Tomorrow I'll see if I can get the video out of the phone.
I was coronated today, not with the holy oil of whales preferred by English kings, but with olive oil from a tin of Portuguese sardines.
Life is good, y'all.
